JR QUINAHAN hit a clutch basket in the last four seconds as the Whoppers shocked defending champion Harbour Centre, 81-77, in the 2007 PBL Unity Cup at the Olivarez Sports Center.
After Josh Urbiztondo knotted the count at 77-77 with, a long trey, Quinahan made the game,s biggest basket, after eluding the plodding Allan Gamboa with just 15, seconds that sent the crowd into frenzied celebration.
Jim Viray sealed Burger King,s second straight win, with two charities with two seconds remaining.,
The loss came as a shock as the Batang Pier who were, expected to beat the Whoppers easily with their, star-studded line-up
The scrappy 6-foot-6 center was in the right place at, the right time, putting back a Juntilla miss with 33, seconds remaining to help preserve the victory and, jumpstart the title bid of the Kitchen Specialists.
Coach Lawrence Chongson also credited the team,s, pesky defense that saw the Batang Pier turn the ball, twice, the last one , a passing error , by Allan, Gamboa with barely five ticks left.
Nestor David led the Whoppers with 16 points and 11, rebounds while Quinahan and Mike Bravo combined for 23, points.
The Batang Pier took a 13-point lead twice, the last, at 41-28, but the Whoppers rallied behind the hot, hands of Bravo and Ronjay Buenafe.
New recruit Jason Castro drilled in 13 points for, Batang Pier, but overall, his performance was not so, impressive. JC Intal and UAAP Finals MVP were held to, just eight and four points, respectively.
